Return to the Viking Age in the heart of the Swedish capital of Stockholm!!!

The Viking Museum

The Viking Museum first opened its doors in 2017. Since then the museum has gone through a complete renovation in 2019 and several new exhibitions have been added, as well as artifacts and recurrent events in our program.

The Viking Museum is now one of Stockholm's most visited attractions. Here, visitors are greeted by guides with an extensive knowledge in history and archaeology. The museum offers guided tours every hour, most of them in English, and all of them are included in the entrance fee. There is also a free audio guide which is available in ten languages.

In addition to the exhibition, there is the possibility to take a trip in the museum's adventure ride. Here, the visitor gets to travel through Viking Age Europe in a story that focuses on the Vikings’ journeys to the East. The events are based on historical material and runestones and have been dramatized with the help of sceneries and projections. The ride is available in nine different languages.

2023 was the premiere of two new additions to the exhibition. One focuses on the Eastern roots of the Vikings and is located on the lower floor, together with the adventure ride. The other one is an interactive digging site, meant to show what archeology can teach us about the Viking Age. Our new restaurant Eld also had its grand opening in 2023. Eld offers mead tastings and Scandinavian locally grown food, among other things.

2024 is a big year for The Viking Museum. This spring, the opening of a new exhibition about the Popular Viking ”From Wagner to Vikings”, as well as the Stockholm Mead Festival, a three day indoor and outdoor festival and market, will take place at the museum.

Each season, The Viking Museum celebrates with a big blot – a heathen ceremony where the audience gets the opportunity to participate. In wintertime, we arrange a historical market with Viking Age handcrafts, delicacies and entertainment.
