Ribe Viking Centre, Denmark

Site Overview

Experience Viking life in Denmark's oldest town

Ribe Viking Centre is a living history of the oldest town in Denmark – Ribe. Parts of the town have been reconstructed and brought to life, as it was during the Viking Age.

You can experience an authentic Viking environment and enter the exciting world of the inhabitants. A Viking ship is moored at the docks and Icelandic horses graze by the manor farm.

The falconer lets his bird of prey fly and you can feel the draught when the lanner falcon dives toward you. It is an experience not to be missed.

Ribe Viking Centre brings alive the culture that laid the foundation of Ribe’s heyday during Viking times. Visitors can meet the craftsmen, the blacksmith, the woodcarver, pearl maker and archers, and you can try your own hand at archery or baking bread during your stay.

During the first weekend in May, Ribe hosts an annual Viking market where hundreds of Vikings, craftsmen, traders, warriors and riders from across Europe gather to sell their goods and demonstrate their crafts.
